Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub, the savior of hearts
Dr. Magdi Yacoub is considered one of the most famous cardiologists in the world. He was nicknamed the “Savior of Hearts” when he founded the great medical institution (Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation) in Egypt in 2008, which was the reason for saving the hearts of millions of children and giving them another chance at life.
Dr. Magdi Yacoub began his career in 1962 at the Chest Hospital in London, then moved to Harefield Hospital and worked there as a specialist in heart and lung surgery until 2001. He performed the first heart transplant operation for the patient Drake Morris in 1980, who lived for 25 years after that, and the success of this operation spread throughout Europe.
In 2001, Dr. Magdi Yacoub was content to be a consultant and supervisor of organ transplant surgeries, but in 2006 he returned to performing surgeries himself, performing the most difficult heart surgery, which was the operation to remove the heart transplanted into the heart of a child whose natural heart had been healed. It was one of the complex operations performed by Sir Magdi Yacoub, and after that he began to think about establishing the great edifice for heart treatment in Aswan, which was actually established in 2008.
